21st Century Digital Boy

There are four forces that affect 21st Century learning – Knowledge Work, Thinking Tools, Digital Lifestyles and Learning Research. In these few short words, authors Bernie Trilling and Charles Fadel capture the essense of where we are, where we need to go, and how to get there.

Contemporary Analysis of Education

21st Century Skills: Learning for Life in Our Times is a contemporary analysis not just of what has happened in the education industry, but what needs to happen and why. More importantly is that a complete roadmap is provided on the necessary steps to take now, for the future.

Bernie Trilling is no stranger to technology and education, due to his previous work at WestEd and a member of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. Charles Fadel is also a board member of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, and a leader in education at Cisco Systems. This book is an obvious extension of their dedicated work in the world of global education. Make no mistake, this is not a self-help book but a reference manual as to how to apply and transform the skills needed for success for the next century.

Learning in Practice

The book is divided into three main parts, plus an introduction section (with three articles) and three appendices on resources and applying the learning system. There is also a DVD included, which brings to life some of the suggested practices. Part One: What Is 21st Century Learning explains the history of learning then and now, and how it applies to future careers and work.
