The tiny megapixel count, surprisingly, plays in its favour, the chip has the same space on its 1/2-inch sensor as many of today’s cameras, but the light-absorbing photosites that make up the CCD’s surface are five times bigger in comparison due to the fewer pixels. In other words—the pixels are bigger, meaning less noise and better light absorption.
