Flash memory (solid state) and High Definition (HD) models now dominate the Canon camcorder range. Falling flash memory prices mean that affordable flash camcorders, rival hard disk camcorders in storage capacity.
Tape (miniDV) and DVD camcorders are less convenient than the higher capacity (up to 64 gigabytes) and more reliable (no moving parts) flash models. Tape (DV, HDV) is still used for Canon's professional camcorder models.
Canon says that 32 gigabytes of flash can record over 4 hours of 1920 x 1080 full HD movies in FXP mode. This increases to over 12 hours for lower resolution LP mode.
