Caplio R1 Digital Camera
A macro flash is used to provide light when photographing small objects that are close to the camera. The camera's internal pop-up flash, or an external flash in the hotshoe, is either blocked by the lens or creates harsh.
We look at the different solutions available on the market. Prices range from $50 to $100 for a third-party flash, to over $500 for a flash from a DSLR manufacturer such as Canon and Nikon. Third-party macro flash units include Metz, Sigma, and many other less well-known brands.
Most macro flashes can be used for conventional portrait photography as well. However their power (guide number) is usually lower than a standard flash.
