Digital Camera Accessory

It is astounding the quality and features that are packed into a small digital camera. There are so many to choose from and lots of technical information. Deciding what is good seems bewildering. Digital cameras are relative easy to use and in most cases can be set to automatic for good quality pictures to be taken. Some advantages of digital photography include the ability to view pictures as soon as they have been taken, ease of use, large storage capacities and the variety available in all price ranges. Image manipulation for a better print is also easy with a digital camera.

Megapixel Explained

A digital image is made up of a series of tiny square pieces positioned side by side in rows, with each piece being a distinct color. Each piece is known as a pixel. The number of pixels included in a picture dictates the quality. Generally, the more and the smaller each pixel is, the higher definition the image will be. A lot of consumers will purchase a camera according to the megapixel count.

A megapixel is equal to 1 million pixels. A 5 megapixel camera has the ability to produce an image with 5 million pixels. For a reasonable quality 4”x6” print, usually only 1 megapixel is required, although most camera’s have a higher count. A higher megapixel image allows better quality enlargements or edited photographs to be produced.

Screens on Digital Cameras

Screens on the back of digital cameras are used to view a photograph as soon as it has been taken. A picture may also be taken by viewing the screen rather than the conventional eyepiece. Stored images from the memory can also be viewed via the screen.

Power and Batteries

Digital cameras run on batteries in a variety of sizes. Some run on AA, in which case rechargeable batteries would be a good choice. Some models have a rechargeable Li-On battery and charger which allows the camera to be recharged via an electric power outlet.
