Cable news plays host to political grievances and petty prejudices every day and night. If you have a bent toward the left, you probably have MSNBC in your television viewing routine. If you lean to the political right, your destination is Fox News Channel. But what you might not know is Fox has quietly been making a move toward the middle in recent months. Roger Ailes, the president of Fox News and favorite target of the political left, acknowledges as much in the September 25, 2011 edition of Newsweek.

Fox News critics have long complained of an overt Republican bias on their programs, though supporters say there's a difference between the network's daytime news coverage and nighttime opinion shows helmed by cable news heavyweights like Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. Regardless of the criticisms, there's no denying one very large fact: Fox News Channel has been the number one cable news channel for years -- easily surpassing competitors CNN and MSNBC combined. To whit, in September 2011, Fox had 16 of the top shows in cable news.
